Hi, my name is Amanda! I live in Grand Rapids, MI and I am the owner of Two Hands in the Dirt. At the beginning of the pandemic I was itching to do something new. One day I was strolling through the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market and I could just feel deep down that I wanted to grow. I didn’t know what I wanted to grow, but I knew I wanted to be working outdoors…with my hands in the dirt 😏. I followed that urge and decided to apply to a local organic vegetable farm. I spent one season working for them and while I learned so much about how to grow, I didn’t feel passionate about vegetables and felt a little discouraged and lost about where to go next.
It was in the moment pictured below that I knew I wanted to grow flowers. I was on vacation with a friend and found this lovely patch of goldenrod and decided to harvest some. Something else clicked for me and I knew i needed to grow flowers, even just for myself.
I never felt like I actively chose to have a flower farm, it just naturally happened. I decided I wanted to grow flowers for myself and all of the sudden I was purchasing 30 packets of seeds in all different varieties and wondering where I would grow them. My aunt and uncle graciously offered to let me grow flowers on their land and that’s when the farm began.
ABOUT ME
The farm began in 2023 and is located in Allendale, MI. The farm stand and all pickups are at my home in Grand Rapids, MI. I care very deeply about the land and grow using all organic methods.
